The Business Need

In early 2003, the New Zealand Christian Football Association approached Second Mile with a challenge – to provide an easy to manage, cost effective method of communicating up to date news, events and scores from their three division football league to the large group of players and supporters.

Their existing website was limited to displaying scores from the previous round, and adding scores involved emailing their ISP with the results, who in turn uploaded the table of results as an image.

For their troubles, the ISP charged a hefty fee for each weekly update. Not only were the weekly maintenance fees spiralling out of control, the NZCFA had very little control over how their website operated, and what material they could place there.

The Solution

Blue 10, the Auckland based design agency, came up with the concept of PlanetCFA – the new online brand of the NZCFA.

Second Mile provided PlanetCFA with a bespoke content managed internet solution, including applications to manage the teams & their results, bonus points, default points, and promotions & relegations.

In addition, Second Mile provided email lists for immediate communication with team captains and other groups.

PlanetCFA was engineered to be as easy as possible for the NZCFA committee to manage. Inputting the results after each round is fast and hassle free, with the results being available online immediately, and without the weekly fees of the previous website.

Operational Benefilts

Not only are the NZCFA enjoying a faster, easier to manage website, they’re also enjoying a smarter website.

“At the middle of each season the top two teams from each of our three divisions are promoted, and the bottom two teams demoted. Our new website sorts out all the points and shifts the teams into their new divisions with the click of a button. Not only that, but it ensures that these teams now receive double points for all their games. The site will even add bonus points and subtract penalty and default points as we enter the scores.”

The Next Step

With the overwhelming success of PlanetCFA during the 2003 football season, the NZCFA and Second Mile have implemented an annual website review, where the performance of the site is analyised and additional features are added for the next season.

The 2004 upgrades included redesigned home page, archiving previous season’s results, improved photo gallery, and archived player profiles.
